Horizontal Band Saw 201

Horizontal Band Saw Machine

The saw frame of the horizontal band saw is arranged horizontally or tilted, and is fed in the vertical direction or in the direction of swinging around a pivot. The saw band generally changes 40° to keep the saw teeth perpendicular to the workpiece.

The processing form of the horizontal band saw machine is completely opposite to that of the ordinary band saw machine. The saw head is used to move the wood without moving it. Therefore, the horizontal band saw machine is not directly placed on the track, but is installed on the base by some small wheels, and then connected by the track and wheels. This design can reduce friction and make the horizontal band saw machine move back and forth more smoothly and quickly. The horizontal woodworking band saw machine is composed of a saw frame, a parallelogram adjustment device or four.

Vertical Band Saw 201

Vertical Band Saw Machine

The saw frame of the vertical band saw is set vertically, and the workpiece moves during cutting. It is used to cut the curved contours of sheet materials and formed parts. The saw belt can also be replaced with a file chain or abrasive belt for filing or grinding.

Vertical band saw machines are divided into manual type (economical manual feeding and manual cutting of materials) and automatic type; according to the automation program of the controller, they can be divided into manual type (semi-automatic manual feeding) and fully automatic type (automatic feeding and automatic cutting); according to the cutting angle requirements, they can be divided into angle saws (capable of sawing angles of 90 degrees and 45 degrees) and no angle, that is, 90 degrees vertical cutting.

The difference between horizontal band saw machine and vertical band saw machine

The main difference between vertical and horizontal bandsaws is their working principle and applicable scenarios.

Working principle

Vertical bandsaw:
This equipment is stationary, and the carpenter cuts the logs by moving the automatic sports car left and right and forward and backward. The saw blade cuts vertically up and down at a 90-degree angle to the wood, suitable for straight and curved cutting.

Horizontal bandsaw:
Horizontal bandsaws are also called gantry bandsaws and are mainly used to cut very large wood. Unlike vertical bandsaws, the blade of the horizontal bandsaw moves in a horizontal direction, while the sports car remains stationary. This design is particularly suitable for processing large logs with a diameter of more than 1.5 meters.

Cutting process

When using a vertical bandsaw, the logs are first mounted on the sports car by a crane and fixed with a clamp. Then, the required cutting thickness is entered through the control cabinet, and the bandsaw is started for sawing. The sawing process is usually carried out from the outside to the inside, first removing the outer bark of the log, and then cutting the finished product.

For horizontal woodworking band saws, the operation process is similar, but its saw blade cuts in a horizontal direction, usually cutting wood layer by layer from top to bottom. The operator needs to control the tightness of the saw blade to ensure the accuracy and precision of the cut.

Wood Selection and Processing

When selecting wood, huge logs are usually selected for cutting. Before cutting, the wood needs to be exposed to wind and sun to evaporate the moisture inside, because wet wood is difficult to saw. For furniture factories, using treated standard wood squares or boards as raw materials can reduce transportation costs.
