Four-sided planer is a planer product of woodworking machine tools. It is mainly used to process wood products such as wooden floors, planks, wooden squares, decorative wood lines, etc. It mainly planes wood. The wood products processed by it can obtain precise width and thickness dimensions, cross-sectional shapes and surface finish.
Features of woodworking four-sided planer
1. Process concentration and improved production efficiency
Four-sided planer concentrates the processing that can only be completed by multiple machine tools such as flat planer, pressure planer, lower axis vertical milling machine, high-speed washing machine, etc. in traditional processes. It is a typical process-concentrated multi-tool joint machine tool, which can greatly improve processing capacity and production efficiency, effectively reduce production cycle, and effectively save labor.
2. One-time molding, high processing accuracy
The processing of four-sided planer is called one-time processing. The workpiece can achieve all the required contents through one processing, and the line shape is smooth and the size is uniform. At the same time, it avoids the adverse consequences of errors caused by repeated processing of multiple machine tools, and effectively reduces the error rate of workers’ operations.
3. Continuous feeding, flexible speed regulation
Since the four-sided planer adopts mechanical continuous forced pressing feeding, the feed speed can be variable frequency or stepless speed regulation according to the material of the processed wood and the amount of cutting, which largely avoids the quality defects caused by excessive cutting amount and improves the processing accuracy and quality of the product.

Types of woodworking four-sided planers
Four-sided planers are classified by their production capacity, number of cutter shafts, feed speed, and cutting processing power of the machine tool. Generally, four-sided planers can be divided into light, medium and heavy. The main parameter for measuring the production capacity of the four-sided planer is the maximum width of the workpiece being processed. In addition, the number of cutter shafts, feed speed and cutting power also reflect the production capacity of the machine tool to a certain extent.
- Light four-sided planer:
Generally, there are 4 axes, and the arrangement and order of the cutter shafts are: lower horizontal cutter shaft, left and right vertical cutter shafts and upper horizontal cutter shaft. The left vertical cutter shaft and the upper horizontal cutter shaft can be moved and adjusted relative to the right vertical cutter shaft and the lower horizontal cutter shaft. The maximum width of the processed workpiece: 20-230mm.
- Medium-sized four-sided planer:
Generally 5-6 axes, the arrangement and order of the first four axes of the five-axis four-sided planer are the same as those of the four-axis four-sided planer. Generally, the fifth axis is used for forming milling, which can be adjusted by 360 degrees of rotation and can cut the fed wood in any direction. The six-axis four-sided planer is based on the five-axis four-sided planer, and a lower horizontal axis is added to the front of all the axes. The workpiece is processed twice in the lower horizontal direction to give the workpiece a better processing reference and ensure the processing accuracy.
- Heavy-duty four-sided planer:
Generally more than 7 axes, the arrangement method: in addition to the basic four-sided processing, there are also fine processing axes for the reference surface and the forming surface. The maximum width of the processed workpiece: more than 200mm.
